Extended Services and Case Management

For LGBTQ people in need of further assistance, CAVP can help with court accompaniment, system advocacy, and short and long term case management. Part time Community Advocate in Colorado Springs
We know a community can only thrive when its citizens are safe, involved, and united.  This begins with the partnering of like-minded folks and organizations. That’s why the Pride Center of Colorado Springs and the Colorado Anti-Violence Program have created a partnership. The Community Advocate, working through the Colorado Anti-Violence Program and housed at the Pride Center, will be networking and building relationships with local service providers, organizations and individuals to offer crisis intervention, referrals, and other services to LGBTQ people in Colorado Springs and El Paso County. Cara Neri, the Community Advocate, can be reached at 719-471-4429 or cara@YourPrideCenter.org.

The Pride Center of Colorado Springs - Mission: To empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to achieve civil and social equality. Vision: We envision a thriving Colorado Springs in which all people, including GLBT people, can reach their full potential as human beings, free from oppression and discrimination. We envision a region where individual rights are honored, and constitutional rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are upheld for all people.

Training and Education

CAVP helps train professionals who work with LGBTQ people and with victims of violence to understand the experiences and needs of our community.

We provide technical assistance and case-by-case consultation to law enforcement, healthcare professionals, domestic violence and homeless shelters, and service providers when individuals from the LGBTQ community are the victims of violence.

CAVP also educates generally about cultural competency for service providers and the dynamics of partner abuse and hate crimes. We participate in cross-training with other service providers and agencies to raise awareness in others and ourselves.

Prevention and Outreach

CAVP has developed a series of posters, pamphlets, palm cards, wallet cards, bumper stickers, matchbooks and other tools to help us in our outreach efforts.

We poster in bars, speak at meetings of LGBTQ organizations, and sponsor events that publicize the problem of violence within and against our community.

As we continually educate the LGBTQ community about violence prevention, safety issues, and resources, we raise community awareness that builds support for survivors and accountability for perpetrators.
